Montana Stockgrowers Foundation supports a number of young rancher programs that emphasize education and leadership in the Montana ranching communities. This includes sponsoring participants of the REAL Montana leadership program.

REAL Montana Program Information
Resource Education and Agriculture Leadership (REAL) Montana is a two year program offering in-depth education and training in the agriculture and natural resource industries.
These industries in Montana are facing unprecedented change due to new technologies, consumer preferences, environmental concerns, government regulation, and global trade. At the same time, the population base from which they draw their leadership is diminishing. REAL Montana works to address this leadership shortage through high quality leadership and industry training.
The Montana Stockgrowers Foundation will support MSGA members in the amount of $1,000 each up to a total of 3 participants. Remaining expenses are the responsibility of the participant, who will be chosen from those who apply.
Scholarship recipients of the REAL Montana scholarship must be members of Montana Stockgrowers Association.
Setup
The program features eight in-state seminars held in rotating locations across Montana. In Year One, participants also travel to Washington D.C. for a 5-7 day national seminar. Year Two includes a 10-day international trip. Each in-state seminar typically runs from Thursday afternoon through Saturday afternoon.
Seminar Topics
Seminars are a mix of leadership training, educational tours, in- and out-of-state travel, and networking opportunities. Program content includes agriculture institutions and agencies, natural resource development, public speaking/media, economics, policy, international trade, urban/rural relationships, water issues, transportation, labor and production costs, entrepreneurship, and other current industry topics.
The Application may be filled out online. The application process for 2022 is closed. We will reopen the application process for 2023 in January.
